A sidle track heads upriver from Monument Hut, staying low on the valleyside and avoiding crossing the river outside the hut. This drops to the flats after around 800m and you are left to wander your way up the open flats on the true left. A DOC triangle 200m before the confluence marks the start of the next high-water track to the Huxley swingbridge, or you can ford the river in normal/low conditions.
