From the lower tarn, climb briefly SSE between peaks 2090 and 2005 - a brief scramble up loose scree to the saddle. Beyond a long scree elevator takes you 300m down into the valley to the south - runnable but chunky scree and steep slope. The gradient lessens at 1600m and a walk follows on stable rock, later short tussock to the bushedge. Game trails then lead down the valley all the way to the confluence with the Maitland, mainly through open beech.

Good campspots exist at the confluence with the Maitland on the northern bank.
