A marked, roughtly cut tramping track climbs east from the former Waiokotore Biv site. The track climbs to the ridgeline and then follows it east. A signposted track junction is reached 200m west of Potae Highpoint, where a track drops southwest towards Colenso Hut.

Following the ridgeline NW then west from the Colenso turnoff, the track is roughly cut and well marked. The track descends to a terrace above the Waiokotere then sidles briefly upriver to the formed Waiokotere Biv site. The biv is now gone, but the clearing makes a good campspot.
