From the Barnicoat Walkway carpark, follow the cyclepath / walkway 200m up the true left of the stream until it huits a vehicle track. Turn right, up the hill, then 40m later turn left along a benched track sidling the valleyside upstream. The track sdidles the face until it hits the stream at the top forks shown on the map. After 20m mucking around in the streambed, the track climbs the spur in-between the two forks. Well cut, well marked and well used - but this is a steep tramping track, not a walkway. Later on another cycle path joins from the north and you have the choice of zigzagging on the bike track, cor continuing steeply up the tramping track. Both hit the Barnicoat Riddeline track at the same place, 400m west of pt789.
