After either sidling around or summiting Maungamahue, continue on the main ridgeline until the local highpoint of 1614 is seen.
There are Waratahs sparsely placed around the north eastern side of the face, though these can be challenging to spot.
The easiest route is to top Pt 1614 and travel down to the signed turnoff point, though sidling its northeastern face is also possible, however quite risky in winter months with snow and ice. Exercise caution if the latter route is taken, as the fall would be suboptimal.
