Follow the old logging road from the gate up the Waikawa Valley. After 10 minutes the road enters native bush. There is a slip that a rough track climbs up and over about 250m before the end of the old road that ends at an old (now soggy) camp site (with good toilet). The slip is a rough section but fairly short and the climb is not too high.
From here there are routes up to Panatewaewae and Thompson.
Shortly after cross the Panatewaewae stream. There is a track at the stream mouth up the spur here to Mt Waitewaewae via 590 & 708. Continue up the main trail up to the Old Mill Site (1hr)
All that remains is a large field and a few blocks of concrete.

I went on this track today. Glad I had Strava tracking and a track to follow on the phone, because this track has a few slips and detours, and tracks going left/right all over the place.

One of the harder tracks I've done in a while, due to the slips and a lot of wet spots.

I saw at the end, past the old mill site that a track kept going. I followed as far as I could till I got to a stream. I did see a tag (orange metal) on the other side, but was unclear where to from there. On the way back found more tags (blue), but hard to see where, if anywhere that led.

Anyway, will probably be back here one day, but with your GPS GPX data, it's near impossible without I feel.

PS, thanks for sharing this, hard to find this info otherwise, on these rarely used tracks.
