This is an on old NZFS track. From behind Mid Otaki Hut, climb steeply to the flattish are on the spur west of pt. 595, at about the 540m contour. Upon reaching this, continue climbing towards pt. 595. Directly to the east of pt. 595 is a short flat section to the 600m contour, after which, the old track continues to climb the spur towards the Kelleher high point. The old track keeps to the spur-line. The bush line is at the 1120 contour, beyond which a faint ground trail heads due west, over Kelleher, to meet the track along the main ridge line.
