A tidy, welcoming tramping club hut tucked on the eastern side of the main Ruahine ridgeline. Howletts sleeps 8 on 2 platforms. There's a woodburner, and some fuel flown in by the club. Water is from the tank. Hut fees are $10, payable to Herataunga Tramping Club by post or internet banking.
