A signposted turnoff on the Greenstone track points the way across the grassy flats towards McKellar Saddle. Once in the trees on the eastern side of the valley the newly rerouted track (2014) climbs steadily up the hill via a system of zig zags, but reaches the top at the same point as the old track. The new climb is significantly faster then the old route despite a longer distance traveled. Cross McKellar Saddle on boardwalk and then follow the good quality track down into the Caples. Its straight forward down to the signpost which points towards the Kay and Fraser valley tracks. There is significant windfall here due to severe winds from October 2015 but the Caples track is clear.
