From the Remarkable skifield base climb parallel to the main lift and swing SW into the basin containing Lake Alta. The low saddle to the Wye is obvious accessed by ascending south from the lake outlet. The head of the Wye is a large gentle basin - filled with snow on my visit. after 2.5km the creek descends to a deep broad valley by way of waterfalls. The route down is cairned on the true left (east) of the creek. From here downstream progress is steady on tussock valley floor.
A second smaller step down in the valley is reached after 1km. It is possible to make a sidling climb from the head of this step to the saddle south of pt2090 into the South Wye at Lake Hope.
