From the signposted junction 40m back towards Arrowtown from Norman Spence Bridge, the Sawpit Gully track climbs steeply, passing a lookout and picnic table. Once 100m above the valley floor the track sidles gently into and up Sawpit Gully, reaching the forks in the creek after 1.5km. The ruins of an old hut lie on terraces 40m up the north fork.
The track is poled as it climbs the western fork to the signposted track junction at Eichardts Flat.
