The gorge between the upper and lower flats in camp creek is tricky with several impassable waterfalls. Follow the river down into the start of the gorge, either in the bed or on the banks (mostly northern bank). Several scrambles are required round / down minor waterfalls, but the river is followable to the creek draining pt1722. At (or before) the creek draining pt1722 climb 40m onto scrubby terraces to the north where game trails lead down to the forks on the next sidestream west. (A higher tussock sidle may also be possible 100m above the creek on the southern side) Descend the lower Camp Creek flats to where the river starts to enter a minor gorge. Remain above this on the northern valleyside and sidle at this height to intersect the spur dropping from pt1408 to the track start. Descend the spur and pick up the track start at the start of scrub. The start is not obvious - a tight V in the scrubline looks like a watercourse, but is the start of the track. Some old pink tape was present (2021) but hard to spot. The start is 200 vertical meters higher than shown on maps - at the top of the 'C' in camp creek on my topomap. 2-4 hrs (allow more time than you'd expect)
