From the ridge above the outlet of Lake1023 head northeast and look for a gully which drops down off the ridge. Dont descend to lake level, instead once out of the gully sidle to the northeast under bluffs and climb up onto the 60m hill on the eastern side of the lake. Descend off its northern side down to the stream flowing into the lake. Theres flat grassy ground here for camping on.
Sidle around the the shore of the lake rock-hopping just above water level, until a scree slope is reached. Climb the scree and sidle to the west across grassy slopes to reach the main outlet stream between Lake's1101 and 1023. 2 waterfalls should be visible with a flat area of normal flowing water in between; cross here to the true right. CLimb the grassy hill here until past the upper waterfall, and either keep heading north into the ravine of the outlet stream, or sidle to the west to reach the rolling country near Pt1132 south of Lake1101.
Note: Described in the reverse direction to your journey
From the outlet of Lake1101 head downstream on the true right of the stream. It soon flings itself over a waterfall, but this is easily bypassed by climbing up onto the ridge west of the stream and climbing down the hillside. The stream has a flat part between this upper waterfall and a 2nd waterfall, where it plunges into another ravine for its final descent to Lake1023. Cross the stream here between the waterfalls and sidle eastwards on grass slopes until a scree slope is reached which drops down to lake level. Descend to the lake and sidle around, hopping on rocks the whole way until you reach the flat grassy area where a stream flows into the lake from the east. There's quite nice looking camping here.
Continuing onwards, you need to climb roughly 60m up a hill south of the stream, and then sidle southwestwards under bluffs of the impressive ridge coming off Pt1388. A gully then leads up and onto the flat-topped part of the ridge high above the outlet of Lake1023. There are impressive views here, both back over Lake1023, and down to the first 2 lakes of the Florence staircase near Pt881. There's also a tarn here for camping if you wish, although it would be nicer back down near Lake1023's eastern shore.
