In the sixties this was a well used cullers route. Head up Arete stream about 100m, cross the terrace and climb the spur. Very old markers may be of assistance but its probably easier now to make your own way through relatively open bush. Use the southern side of the ridge where the scrub starts, and look for a short steep gully on your right through a bluff around the 1100m contour. There is a good ground trail for the last 10min after you join the Bannister ridge.
