Access up Te Ekaou Stream is possible as it has a Queen's Chain providing public land for 11m on either side of the stream as far as the boundary. Surrounding farmland is private and stock may be present.

Going is easy on grass river banks from the bridge to the for 1km from the park boundary. A 4WD track climbs the hillside, but is on private land. One waterfall can be passed easily on the north bank. The last 1km to the park boundary is gorged, but the river bed is flat so it's wet feet but easy going.

A slot gorge on the north side marks the park boundary.
