A good riverbed route runs between Duckville and the Weremata-Mangahoanga confluence. The top 1km has some of the dense ongaonga (nettle) issues found above Duckville, but below that the plant becomes sparse and not the impediment it was. Travel is on the riverbed with some sections on the banks. No track exists. River travel was ankle to knee deep on slippery small riverstones in normal flows.

Duckville Hut is 20m above the river on a spur, upstream of the confluence on the western bank. A marked track leads to the hut up the bushedge, about 50m upstream of the confluence.
