A well marked, badly cut track runs over Te Whakaumu towards Twain/Saddle huts. The track has a good ground trail, and follows a well used stoat/possum/rat trapline. Marked with orange triangles, permolat, and yellow trapping triangles the route is easily followed. Note, however, that several other trap lines (also marked with yellow triangles) drop off down various spurs, and so you must always be aware of where you are and stick to the main ridge track. If you haven't seen an orange triangle or white/red permolat in a while - you're probably in the wrong place!

Marked with orange triangles, permolat, and yellow trapping triangles the route is easily followed. Note, however, that several other trap lines (also marked with yellow triangles) drop off down various spurs, and so you must always be aware of where you are and stick to the main ridge track. The two places you need to take most care are Te Whakaumu summit at the next summit 600m WNW. At both locations the track swings sharply from north to west, whilst trap lines continue north in both spots. If you haven't seen an orange triangle or white/red permolat in a while - you're probably in the wrong place!
