From pt745, a well marked track (white/red permolat) and trapline (yellow triangles) drops NW towards Waikokopu Hut. The track is not well cut, and occasional windfall was becoming an issue (2015). After about 1.5km, the track swings NW off the ridge and drops down a face to pick up a side-spur running down to the hut. This junction is easily missed, as a well-traveled trap-line (yellow triangles) continues north down the main ridge at this point. Look for a white permolat with the words 'Waiko Left 50m', and 50m later a tree with triangles pointing pot ahead and left. This is the junction where you drop left (west) off the ridge.

A well-traveled track / trapline rings SE from Waikokopu Hut, climbing to pt745. This is marked with both white/red permolat track markers and yellow trap markers. The track is not well cut, but there's a good ground trail and markers are frequent. 20m before the summit at pt745 a track junction is reached (not signposted) with a track running east towards Twain Hut / Saddle Hut, and another climbing the last few meters south over pt745 towards Waihua Hut.
