Accessing Bannister from the west is easier than the east. Drop east to the broad saddle from pt 1434 then make a long steady climb to the Twins. A steep descent to the next saddle and ascent follow to Bannister Peak follows, but it;s a tramp on rock and tussock, no a climb or scramble.
