From the track junction, follow the main logging track south along the Island Range. The track drops steeply to hit the sidecreek just above the forks. Cross where the track hits the sidecreek and then head SW up the spur opposite until you hit good terraces after about 60 vertical meters. Good ground trails exist.

Follow the terrace/faultline south, crossing the sidecreek and passing above the large slip shown on maps. Once across the sidecreek you can sidle downhill, keeping in the good bush and out of the scrub until you reach river flats again. Follow these upriver, staying in good bush, until you reach the next forks, where you can drop to the riverbed and join the 4WD track.
