From the grassy campspot / shelter on the south bank, upstream of the bend: either follow a lightly marked flagging tape west up the face, or head downstream of the bend and scramble onto the base of the obvious spur and follow that up to the ridgeline. On the crest of the ridge you'll hit a route heading NS along ridge 666, a reasonable ground trail exists. 100m downhill (north) is the end of the old logging track heading to the Waiotauru Forks.
