This is a dangerous crossing of two major rivers. Water is likely to be milky with suspended glacial sediment so judging depth requires skill and experience. Rivers change course frequently and conditions will differ from those described here. Do not attempt this unless you are experienced at major river crossings. If in doubt, do not cross.
Braided sections above Clyde/Lawrence confluence made a possible crossing in low flows (2007), but tricky in anything higher. Channels were knee-to-thigh deep in low flows.
Follow the Clyde river flats on the western bank to confluence with the Havelock.
A 4WD track crosses a braided section of the Havelock 400m upriver from the western side of the Clyde valley, and was an obvious crossing point (2007). Reasonable in low flows, still a serious crossing. I lost my footing and got swept some distance - a cautionary tale.
Curtis Memorial Hut up the Havelock is an alternative destination should the Havelock prove impassable.
