Cross the Evangeline Stream - this is fine in normal flows but can be impassable after rain - and follow the lakeshore west for a further kilometer.

The start of the track at Marion Bay is well marked. The crack climb steadily inland - feels steeper than the map indicates - on the eastern side of Marien Stream. It crosses the stream just below the lake outlet and then climbs the spur NW to intersect the Hope-Kiwi-Hurunui track at a signposted junction. The track is well marked and well cut.

Follow the signpsted, marked, cut track down the spur to the outlet of Lake Marion, crossing Marion stream. The track swings south and descends the east side of the creek to reach Lake Sumner.

Travel from here is on the lakeshore - which could be an issue if the lake is very high. Evangeline stream is reached after about a kilometer. The stream is easily crossed in normal flows, but and be impassable after rain. A signpost indicates the route to Evangeline Biv.
