A volunteer-maintained track climbs the spur to Healey creek Hut from the Mikonui starting 1km up the Mikonui River from Mikonui Flats Hut.

The track is marked from the bushedge, but it is necessary to watch out for premolar markers marking the track start when travelling up the Mikonui flats.

The track is cut/marked, climbing steeply to 600m before attaining the ridgeline and beginning a more gentle ascent to the bushedge at 1200m. One brief steep scramble up a well protected gravel chute is required at around 1100m, but otherwise the track is straight forward.

From the scrubline at 1300 a more sparsely poled route drops gently onto terraces east of the spur where Healey creek Hut is visible some 100m below. This section could be tricky in poor visibility.
