From Carrington Hut, take the route up the White River to the Clough Cableway. Cross the White here, either by cableway or by foot (if the river is too high to cross on foot, it's likely not a good day to do this route). Head up the Taipoiti river, crossing where neccessary, following the occasional tarn until snow poles mark a track near Harman Pass. There is good camping here, with water from Ariels Tarns and some small rock walls built by other trampers. Allow around 3 hours to get to Harman Pass

From Harman Pass, follow the snow poles down into Mary Creek, which mark the best descent route through the bluffs. Eventually markers peter out when in the flatter lower basin of Mary Creek, with the odd track marker/trail tape visible but generally this becomes a scrub bash through to the start of the marked track in Mary Creek. Large orange triangles indicate where to enter the bush on the TL. Follow decent track and cross the three wire bridge to Julia Hut. When nearing the huts, turn right to get to the Old Julia Hut. Follow the track down to get to Julia Hut, with a marked track leading 10 mins further to the hot pools. Allow 3-4 hours from Harman Pass to Julia Hut
