From Mt Alta, drop to the post-glacial basin SE of the peak on rock and remnant snow/ice. An ice-axe will probably be required even in late summer and crampons would be useful.
Descend the spur due south from the basin into the head of Rumbling Burn (the direct ridgeline to pt2227 is impassable). From here you can pick up a vague spur climbing the west face of pt2227 petering out at about 1900m, from where a direct steep scree climb take you to the summit.
There are many great camping spots in the basin.
