From Kiwi Burn Hut markers head northwest up the extensive flats of the Kiwi Burn, initially towards the western side of the flats avoiding a large swamp close to the river. A side stream is crossed and soon after, Kiwi Burn is crossed to it's true left side, which is followed for a couple of km before re-crossing to the true right just before the bush is reached. Once in the bush, the markers lead to the next clearing where a DOC signpost marks the junction of the Kiwi Burn Loop with the track that heads over into the Whitestone valley.
