From the car park wander up the expanse of the river bed crossing the main channel over and back where necessary, before the junction with the crow river, angle across the flats on the true left until you spot the first large orange triangle set against the bush. This indicates the start of the track across a higher grassy river terrace & through a tongue of bush & into the Crow River valley. Note: you will normally have to cross the Waimakiriri River at least twice before the flats and the first marker. Do not attempt to cross after heavy rain or if heavy rain is forecast. Time from CP to Crow River valley (1.5 to 2 hrs).
