A rough route, once marked, runs up the ridge east of pt1094. Easy going through the bush, simply follow the ridgeline west from the saddle, climbing through first podocarp, later beech. A long narrow section of ridge through mossy forest takes you to the base of the face of pt1094, with open ground visible ahead. Cut left across the face, cross a small dry creek, and climb, remaining in bush a further 60m - this avoids tall tussock and leatherleaf to the north.
Once out of the bush, sidle north about 80m, passing the spur you've been climbing and crossing a small scrubby gut. Once across, pick your way up the next minor spur. There is a good way thought the leatherleaf but it takes some finding. 30m later you out in the open - head uphill aiming for the radio mast visible above. The Kapakapanui track is on the hilltop.
