This route starts 200m back south up the track (on the SW valleyside) from the Tregar/Snowy confluence. Tape on a small flat mark the start of the track cutting uphill and downriver.

Follow the old logging track as it climbs and crosses two gullies. After the 2nd gully the track climbs to a spur, where there is a junction. A deadend track continues downriver and the main track cuts left steeply up the spur for 50m. After the 50m climb is a second junction. Turn right, following an old logging track which sidles flat downriver (east). This continues for 300m before it ends. 20m back from the end of the track, marker tape marks the start of a marked route which drops steeply on boulder-scree in bush, to hit to Oddlands Rd at the first creek crossing south of the Waiotauru Forks.
