Dropping back onto the 4WD track from Oreti Hut, follow the track downriver along the base of the slope. After about 2km, a flat opens west of the main track, and a fainter, grassy 4wd track cuts left off the main track, following the base of the slope SSW to the bushedge.

Lincoln Hut is tucked just inside the bush on the track.

From Lincoln hut, follow the grassy 4WD track north until it joins the main Oreti Valley track. This more established roadbed follows the base of the slope upriver, reaching Upper Oreti Hut after 2km. Upper Oreti Hut is on a terrace west of the track.
