This is an old NZFS track. From the confluence/forks in the Waiohine River, climb steeply through the bush at the toe of the spur, initially in a northerly direction. Once on the spur proper, at the 900m contour, the track swings to the northeast, continuing to climb unrelentingly to the scrub line at the 1140m contour. From the scrub line, a faint ground trail leads to the main track running along Tarn Ridge, joining it where the track drops into a scrubby un-named saddle, northwest of pt. 1371.
