Both the Wiohine and Parks are 4-6m wide at this point and knee deep. They are a simple crossing in low flows but both can easily flood.
The track starts on a small peninsula between the Waiohine and Parks Rivers. Node about and pick up flagging tape marking the start of the track up the spur to the north. The track becomes indistinct and marking all-but stops, but going up is easy as there's only one ridge to follow. Once on the tops the ground trail becomes better as the gradient eases. An easy 1.5km walk on an unmarked ground trail follows to reach Carkeek Hut on the bushedgs.
