A 4WD track runs north along the Carrick Range from the Nevis Road summit. After 4km, it drops east down a spur towards Bannockburn. The restored Young Australian waterwheel is a few hundered meters down the track.

Note that the track crosses private land, and so access is nit assured. However, land west of the summit fenceline is DOC administered as of 2015.
