Downriver from Tataweka it is a long but unexciting stumble on loose rounded river rocks to the confluence. No obstacles other than loose rock underfoot and frequent river crossings. Most were knee deep or lower in low conditions when I visited.

The track to Tawa starts 50m or so downriver from the confluence and is marked with triangles.

Above the forks, the Tataweka is a long but unexciting stumble on loose rounded river rocks to Tataweka Hut. No obstacles other than loose rock underfoot and frequent river crossings. Most were knee deep or lower in low conditions when I visited.

The track to the hut is unmarked from the riverbed - an obvious ground trail climbs through scrub some 20m below the forks shown on the map. The hut is on a grassy platform some 40 vertical meters above.
