Once on the scree, simply descend it all the way down the mountain side. Further out from the bush ts mostly good loose stuff so is easy to go down. There is firmer scree closer to the northern bush edge.
The scree ends roughly where the stream starts on the topomap. Follow grass slopes down, then cross the stream and head west though a short patch of open bush to reach more grass slopes south of Pt706. Descend down to the Upukerora River where an old 4wd/quad bike track leads down river to Army Hut.
