A rough, poorly maintained track (2013) heads west from the downriver end of Blackwater bridge to climb to join the Waiopehu Track.

The track is ok at first as it climbs though open bush, but once it reaches the flat tops it soon becomes overgrown and easy to lose. DOC markers are sporadic, and though flagging tape is present, numerous other routes have also been marked with tape and it is easy to lose the track, especially at sections of windfall.

The junction with the Waiopehu Track is marked with a signpost.

From the signposted track junction a rough, poorly maintained track (2013) heads ENE across gently descending tops. Markers are infrequent and manu side-spurs have flagging tape routes down them, to add to confusion. Eventually the track drops east off the tops and becomes better defined through open bush as it descends to the Oahu River. A signpost marks the junction, just downstream of the Blackwater Bridge.
