Head down to the lake shore from Green Lake hut and follow the markers along the shore to the northwest corner of the lake where markers enter the trees. Climb up and over Point 929 where the track drops steeply down to flat ground en route to the Island Lake track junction. You can leave the track and push through light scrub to reach the top of the large tussock flats for a view down the hill to Island Lake.
