Travel was off track via the true left as the river was too high to cross to the true right. Basically follow the river bank down river following deer trails. Almost immediately south of the river flat camp spot the true left side gorges with steep, unstable and exposed slopes plunging into the river. I ended up having to climb some 40m above the slips before returning to river level, advancing only a couple hundred metres over the space of 45 minutes.
After about an hour and a half's travel, a second small grassy flat with camping is reached, west of Pt 890. Travel gets better south of here on terraces above the river. Its only a further hour to reach the main lower flats beneath Snowdon Peak. After crossing the large tributary west of Pt 765, an obvious quad bike track can be followed south all the way to Army Hut.
