This section of Te Araroa Trail runs through PNCC-owned forestry and has been predominantly closed for years due to logging. The good news is they'll soon run out of trees to cut down. Contact Palmerston North City Council to check is access is possible.
From the locked gate at Scott's Roadend, the forestry track continues over the bridge and up the valley beyond. after about 2km a 3-way junction is reached with the westernmost track being the access to Burtton's Track. The junction is signposted. A further 2.5km of walk on dirt forestry roads remains to reach the style and signposted start of Burtton's track.
